An 11-year-old Syrian boy won first place at the Zhenjiang division of My Story of Chinese Hanzi 2023 competition held at Jiangsu University on July 4.

The international competition is organized by the Chinese People''s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and People''s Daily online.

In Jiangsu, 12 contestants, mostly university students, participated in the competition. They shared their stories about Chinese language learning as well as their understanding of Chinese traditional culture, with a focus on Chinese characters such as "home", "love" and "happiness".
