Export of bingtanghulu candied hawthorn berries rises in Suqian

Companies in Suqian have exported nearly 40,000 boxes of bingtanghulu, skewers of sugar-coated hawthorn berries, to 13 countries since 2021, according to Suqian Customs.

The traditional Chinese snack is cool and fun to eat and has a growing international fan base. Exports of the candied fruity snacks have surged in the run-up to Spring Festival, Chinese Lunar New Year.

Workers are busy making the delightful treat at Suqian Dewang Food for the EU market. The company can produce about 5,000 skewers a day, and some 120 skewers fill one box.

The company''s manager Gu Ping said that not only overseas Chinese but also foreigners are becoming more interested in the snack. The company exported 1,260 boxes of bingtanghulu in three batches in just two weeks this month.
