On December 18th, flocks of Bewick's swans, a national second-class protected wild animal species, were seen inhabiting, foraging, and soaring over the shore of Shijiu Lake in Nanjing's Lishui District.

As a vital wetland in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Shijiu Lake boasts a unique ecosystem and welcomes large numbers of Siberian Bewick's swans (Cygnus columbianus bewickii) to overwinter here each year. Resembling a fairy-tale world, the lake attracts numerous visitors who come to admire its dreamlike and breathtaking scenery.
