Located in Jurong of Jiangsu's Zhenjiang city, the jade-like lake is actually a pumped storage power station. It functions like a giant rechargeable battery: during periods of low demand, surplus electricity is used to pump water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir; when demand increases, the stored water is released through turbines, generating electricity once again. The project, setting three world records, has a total installed capacity of 1.35 million kilowatts.
