The freight yard at Zhangjiagang North Railway Station began official operations on November 28, as its first freight train departed for Foshan in Guangdong Province.
Strategically located along the Shanghai–Suzhou–Nantong Railway, the freight yard serves as a comprehensive logistics hub integrating loading, unloading, warehousing, and transshipment.
Covering about 123,000 square meters, it features two train tracks each over 1,000 meters long, together with loading and unloading equipment. The facility has an annual handling capacity of around 3 million tonnes.
The opening of the freight yard marks a shift from Zhangjiagang's long reliance on road and waterway transport. By linking with the Zhangjiagang Port area of Suzhou Port, it also establishes a multimodal system that connects rail and water transport.
