The Yangzhou Jade Museum opened on November 30 in Wantou town, known as the “Hometown of Chinese Jade Carving.” Covering 12,400 square meters, the museum offers a range of experiences including exhibitions and interactive activities.
Yangzhou's jade-carving tradition has a story of more than 5,000 years, evidenced by jade ornaments unearthed at the Neolithic Longqiuzhuang site in Gaoyou. Due to its strategic location along the Grand Canal, Wantou became a national center for jade production during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The craft was added to the national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
