Wuxi in Jiangsu Province has recently joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, becoming China's first "City of Music."
When speaking of Wuxi's rich musical heritage, many people immediately think of "Er Quan Ying Yue" (The Moon Reflected on the Second Spring), an erhu masterpiece composed by Hua Yanjun, better known as Ah Bing.
However, the city's musical history dates back more than 2,000 years to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. For example, seven tombs of the Yue State nobles excavated in Hongshan contained a large number of celadon musical instruments.
Among the relics, a celadon three-legged fou (a drum-shaped vessel) has been identified by archaeologists as one of the earliest known musical instruments.
