Nanjing played an important role in promoting exchange and mutual learning among diverse civilizations across East Asia from the 3rd to the 6th century, known in China the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties period, according to an international academic conference held in the city.

Nanjing was the capital of the Six Dynasties and the center of Chinese civilization. In this international hub, envoys from across East Asia were a common sight, and its local culture spread widely throughout the region, said Professor Wang Zhigao of Nanjing Normal University.

Baekje, a kingdom located on the southwest Korean Peninsula, maintained frequent contact with China during this period.

Jars unearthed from Baekje royal tombs display distinctive features of Six Dynasties craftmanship.
