Why would a Thai journalist cry during a Chinese film? For Chayathip Lojanakosin of the Thai-Chinese Journalists Association, the answer came naturally.
After watching "Dear You," a 2026 Chinese film about a Thai-Chinese grandmother's half-century bond with her ancestral home in Shantou, Chayathip was moved to tears. "I call myself Thai, but in my blood, the dragon blood flows," she said. "We are all brothers and sisters."
The film struck a chord she hadn't expected. As a Chinese descendant who grew up in Thailand, the story of family ties across borders felt both familiar and overwhelming. A single film, a single audience, and a shared sense of belonging that needs no translation.
