A cargo of 17,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by Yigao Biochemical Technology (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd. was loaded at a local port for overseas shipment on December 22.

Zhangjiagang is a county-level city under the administration of Suzhou, and this shipment marks the first export of SAF from the Suzhou area.

SAF is a jet fuel made from renewable sources such as waste oils and fats. Compared to conventional fossil-based jet fuel, this alternative can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 90%, significantly supporting decarbonization in the aviation sector, according to Jiang Jian, the company's general manager.

Yigao's annual SAF output is about 260,000 tonnes. If fully utilized, this volume is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 970,000 tonnes per year.
