In the first ten months of this year, Jiangsu Province provided free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations to 197,000 first-year junior high school girls.
HPV is the primary cause of cervical cancer and poses a major threat to women's health. In 2023, the free HPV vaccination program was included in the provincial government's annual public welfare initiatives. Over the past three years, a total of 843,800 eligible girls across the province have received the vaccine free of charge.
Local authorities across Jiangsu have introduced a range of convenient measures, including weekend vaccination sessions and extended weekday service hours.
A spokesperson from the provincial health commission said Jiangsu will integrate HPV vaccination with cervical cancer screening to further improve the healthcare service system.
