On December 20, Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport recorded annual passenger throughput exceeding 4 million for the first time, marking a new milestone in its growing role in regional connectivity.
Serving the cities of Yangzhou and Taizhou in central Jiangsu, the airport has developed rapidly since the opening in May 2012. Passenger throughput has grown at an average annual rate of 25.1%, and the airport has operated direct services to a total of 74 destinations.
The airport is currently advancing its Phase II expansion, the largest airport investment project in the coastal province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). It is expected to come into operation in the second half of 2026. Upon completion, the airport's annual handling capacity will increase to 10 million passengers and 100,000 tonnes of cargo and mail.
Yang Wenxi, chairman of the airport, said efforts will be intensified to develop the airport into a tourism aviation hub in the broader Yangtze River Delta and a regional air logistics hub. It is set to contribute more strongly to the high-quality regional economic and social development.
