Fifteen-year-old Zou Tianyi, a student at Jiangsu Xishan Senior High School in Wuxi City, made history on November 16 by clinching the silver medal in the Men's Foil Individual event at the 15th National Games, becoming the youngest medalist in the history of the Games' fencing competition.
Competing at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, Zou fell far behind in the early stages, with Xu Jie of the Fujian provincial team taking a commanding 9-1 lead. Zou then mounted a remarkable comeback, scoring eight consecutive touches to tie the score at 9-9, and eventually won the silver medal with 13-15.
Born in 2010, Zou is also the youngest national youth champion in the history of Chinese men's foil fencing.
