Officials from the Maritime Safety Administration Office in Qidong, Nantong City, recently reported seeing three to five Yangtze finless porpoises during on-site patrols.
It was also reported that Jiangsu Provincial Environmental Monitoring Centre recorded more than 120 individual sightings of Yangtze finless porpoises, including nine calves, during a survey of the endangered species across Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River from October 25 to 31.
The results indicated a stable and gradually increasing population of Yangtze finless porpoises, a national first-class protected species and one of the world's most endangered mammals.
