Jiangsu Province has launched a comprehensive survey of its old towns and historic neighborhoods as part of an effort to enhance protection of its cultural heritage.
The initiative is designed to strengthen the research of historical and cultural resources, providing a detailed understanding of existing assets. The survey will also extend to sites of cultural value, such as ancient post towns, forts, and former concession areas.
Furthermore, Jiangsu will also concentrate on areas that define its distinctive historical and cultural landscape, including the regions along the Yangtze River, the Grand Canal and the coastline.
Through this concerted effort, Jiangsu aims to compile lists of potential conservation targets — including historically and culturally significant cities, towns, streets, neighborhoods, and individual buildings — to ensure the maximum preservation of its valuable heritage resources.
