Design Information
Title: Covenant of Civilizations
Description:
Centered on the concept of "dialogue and integration between Chinese and Western civilizations," this work visually juxtaposes and connects classical Greek attire with Chinese Hanfu through the concrete gesture of a handshake. The white belted robe of ancient Greece, adorned with golden patterns, embodies the rational and aesthetic symbolism of its city-state civilization. The sapphire gold-woven brocade of Hanfu incorporates the ceremonial significance and craft aesthetics of Eastern attire.
In terms of technique, the work adopts a symbolic and abstract approach by deliberately omitting the heads and torsos of the figures, retaining only the clothed arms and the central act of handshake. This dissolves individual physical characteristics, allowing the garments themselves to become visual vessels of civilization. Through minimalist bodily language, the handshake—an act representing communication, respect, and cooperation—is emphasized, metaphorically conveying a dialogue across time and space between Chinese and Western civilizations, as well as the mutual understanding and consensus achieved through cultural exchange. Additionally, the contrast in materials and colors creates a visual balance and harmony, further deepening the theme of intercultural dialogue.
