Title: The Form of Thought
Description:
In its sculptural language, this work draws inspiration from the ancient, unadorned, and restrained aesthetic quality of Han Dynasty figurines. The treatment of the drapery is substantial and concise, with forms tending toward simplification. It minimizes realistic detail to emphasize a sense of spiritual volume, shifting the viewer's focus from external likeness to inner contemplation. The figure's posture is serene and restrained, with an inward gaze, evoking a state of deep meditation and introspection—as if engaged in a silent yet profound dialogue with antiquity, with the self, and with the contemporary era.
Han Dynasty pottery figurines represent early Chinese civilization's fundamental perception of "the human." Recreating them in a modern context serves to reawaken and revitalize the spirit of traditional civilization. From ancient scholars to contemporary creators, the thread of thought remains unbroken, while its modes of expression continually evolve. Using sculpture as a medium, this work connects the spiritual lineages across different epochs, allowing core intellectual pursuits such as "contemplation," "writing," and "expression" to extend into the present in new forms. Viewers, while observing the work, are invited into this continuous dialogue—between history and the present, between tradition and innovation, and between the individual and the times.
