On 1 November 2025, Beijing time, the UNESCO's 43rd General Conference opened in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Focusing on the theme "Museum Perspectives in AI," the session was chaired by Ms. Yannick Lintz, Director of the Guimet Museum in France.
A thematic dialogue featured Ms. Ai Lin, Director of Deji Art Museum from Nanjing, China, alongside Ms. Shaika Al-Nassr, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, and Mr. Clement Onn, Director of the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore.
During the session, Director Ai Lin introduced the ongoing application of technology-enabled and smart development in Chinese museums. She shared innovative practices in revitalizing China's cultural heritage through digital technology, highlighting Deji Art Museum's "AN ERA IN JINLING: A Digital Art Exhibition" as a core case study.
Director Ai Lin explained that the exhibition transforms cultural heritage into a tangible and perceptible experience through digital technology. Deji Art Museum pioneered the interactive "character-into-painting" experience with real-time tracking, allowing visitors to literally step into the painting through smart wristbands, embody characters from a thousand years ago, encounter 533 residents of ancient Jinling. Through layered interactive feedback mechanisms, the exhibition motivates visitors to continuously explore the multiple delights of "AN ERA IN JINLING." The AI-powered photo device instantly generates personalized Song Dynasty avatars, preserving a unique memory for each visitor.
Following the session, authoritative media, including UNESCO official media and Uzbekistan National Television, conducted an exclusive interview with Director Ai Lin. The discussion focused on the application of AI technology in Chinese museums, how Deji Art Museum uses technology to animate cultural relics, and how AI can promote in-depth intercultural dialogue.
Director Ai Lin expressed, "Whether for the younger generation or audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds, we hope everyone can explore and experience Chinese culture, understand the delicate balance between humanity, nature, and the city. We aim to allow people today to see the continuity between self and society in the narrative of this ancient painting, and perceive the vitality of an ancient civilization flowing through time."
